How Games are Assigned

Although games are assigned throughout the entire hockey season, generally speaking, games are assigned in the following manner:

For all levels of minor, the Assignor(s) are required to (via email) request unavailable dates from each official prior to the 1st of each month. Officials will then lof on to this website and enter their availability days for the time frame provided.  Assignor(s) will then schedule the officials based on SHA level, skill and availability for the entire month. Officials after receiving an email that they have received new assignements will re-log onto the web site to confirm these assignments.  Confirming these assignments is not a way for the official to chose if they want it, just to confirm they received it and want to get paid for it.  Once assignments are at this stage they are the officials responsibility regardless if they are confirmed or not.  For further clarification please reference the SRA Assigning Overview PDF

Trading Games

Once you receive a game that game is YOUR’S
  • If for whatever reason you can not referee your game you must find your own replacement.
  • Your replacement MUST come from your pool or higher.
  • A current phone list has been provided in the password area of this website.
  • If you suffer a major tragedy (death in the family), major illness or injury please contact Director of Assigning Relations or any exec member and we will attempt to cover your affected assignments.
  • When a game is traded the assignor must be contacted by the referee taking the game and the referee accepting the game. (See below for procedures for contacting the assignor)
    • Failure to do this will result in the official working the game not getting paid.
    • If this occurs it then becomes the responsibility of the official who worked the
game not the responsibility of SRA to get the money from the official he got the traded game from.
    • Note: This also may result in Disciplinary Actions

If the proper procedure is followed and there is a discrepancy in your check please contact Director of Assigning Relations and he will get the problem resolved ASAP.

Contacting the Assignor

 Email the assignor for:

  • Scheduling concerns
    • i.g. you were scheduled a game on your dark day
  • Game changes prior to 24 hours before game time.
    • Note: the game is not officially traded unless you receive a email confirmation from your assignor.
  • At the game switching between who referees and who works the lines
 Call the assignor for:
  • Game changes that occur less than 24 hours before game time.
  • When an official is not at the rink a minimum of 20 minutes prior to game time.
  • Note: Failure to not make this call will result in a fine (Consult the Discipline Section of this web site)
  • If you are running late for a game
Note after 10:00 pm you are NOT permitted to phone the assignor.

Do not call the assignor for:

(For these concerns please contact Director of Assigning Relations)

  • Pooling concerns / level of hockey assigned
  • Amount of games assigned in a month
  • Paycheck discrepancies

The assignors are employees of the SRA. They do not make any decisions on how games are assigned and the pools you are assigned to work. If you have concerns in any of these areas or feel you are ready to advance pools, please contact the appropriate SRA Executive Member.

Please minimize phone calls to the assigner wherever possible.
